What is BDSM?

This is an elementary post, those of you that know what BDSM stands for will be nodding and smiling. Those of you that have no clue what I’m talking about, I do hope you will learn what BDSM is and accept it.

BDSM is an acronym, a very large collection of words are within these for letters. I will go through each of them individually.

B- Bondage. This is the binding of another person with various items such as leather, rope, steel, silk, etc for sexual pleasure. Many people in the lifestyle participate in this activity.

D- Discipline. There are a couple definitions of this word. There is the controlled attentiveness of an activity, such as corset training (learning to wear corsets on a regular basis), speach adjustment (speaking in the 3rd person), branding or tattooing. There are other disciplines that I can try to list a bit later.Discipline can also be the control of the submissive person in the relationship as a corrective behavior.

S- Sadism. This is the inflicting of pain/sensation for sexual enjoyment. Not to be confused with abuse. Sadists care for their partners where abusers do not. A Sadist does not inflict pain for their enjoyment alone, it should be mutual.

M- Masochism. It’s the other side of the Sadism coin. This is the person that receives pain/sensation for sexual enjoyment. These people are not those that enjoy getting abused, they are not in dangerous situations, this is a loving situation.

D/s- Domination/submission. The relationship side of things. There is a Dominant person and a submissive person in every exchange.

SM- This is the joining of Sadism and masochism, known as sadomasochism. You can’t have one without the other.

I will be discussing the differences of BDSM and Abuse in a different post, stay tuned.
