Reading Marathon
Master and I mistakenly went to Barnes and Noble last night about 8pm. The mass of wizard dressed folk there waiting for the release of HP #7 was oppressive. We walked around a little bit; got a couple of books and then exited swiftly. I really wanted to spend some time there. I love the bargain bins, you never know what you will find.
One book I found at the bargain table was A Note of Thanks: the art of gratitude by Dominique Devito. It’s a small book with a history of writing thank you notes as well as examples for every occasion. I thought, and Master agreed, that this would be a wonderful book to have in my learning library. I’m slowly processing the please and thank you’s. They are getting more frequent and a part of my behavior. Most of the time I don’t even think about it. I know this is the way Master intended. A grand part of my decorum with people. Hopefully I can incorporate the art of thank you note writing into myself.
Another book I bought was book four of Kushiel’s Legacy series Kushiel’s Scion. There are 5 books currently but the last is in hardback still and I would prefer to keep the symmetry of the series and get them all in paperback. I’ve already started reading it and while it’s touted as her best work so far; I’m rather disappointed that it’s in another character’s voice rather than the lead lady. It’s a small complaint really and I’m sure I’ll love it nonetheless.
I’m reading an old classic at work during my breaks called The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton. So far it’s okay, if you don’t mind reading a passive book. Things aren’t very action-y. There is a lot of busy body gossip going on and old 19th century upper society culture. All in all it’s an odd romance.
I am also anticipating the arrival of our copy of HP 7. We ordered it on Amazon and they guaranteed delivery for today. Master appears to have resigned to allowing me to read it first. Maybe it is because I just might have it completely read by Tuesday and if he read it I’d be waiting a week or more? I don’t know. I fly through books.
I’m also trying to think about what sorts of books to get for the group I run. I want to start a traveling library but with the couple of books I have it needs some more options. Anyone have books they would recommend in the library? They can be nonfiction or fiction as long as they have a lifestyle theme to them. I’d love to hear what books you find to be most helpful and why. If anyone is done with books and want to donate them to the traveling library I’ll take em, even pay shipping. Just let me know.

I feel the same way about keeping a series all in paperback. But, I broke that for Kushiel's Legacy. I suspect you will not mind the change of character in Kushiel's Scion, I felt the same way and changed my mind. (I'm about a third of the way through Kushiel's Justice.)
