Day 5
My First Christmas Tree
My first Christmas tree that I put up myself in my first apartment was a tabletop tree that I placed on the TV unit. It was about 2.5 ft high. I bought a strand of 50 lights and some tiny ornaments meant for small trees. I surrounded it with my Christmas cards that I received. I thought it was the most beautiful tree ever. Maybe we all feel that way about the first tree we put up away from home. I had the lights on from as soon as I got home from work until I went to bed. I felt that nothing could make Christmas turn out bad as long as I had that tree. It was magical.
My First Full Size Tree
This tree was even more magical. I have always loved the themed trees and this one was going to be all white and blue. It was a 6ft artificial spruce. I got over 200 white lights, white garland, white angel for the top and then blue balls, and other blue ornaments. I had so much fun decorating this tree and as with the other, I thought it was the best tree in the neighborhood. I still have the ornaments, but the tree is long gone.
Other trees I’ve decorated have been Victorian in nature. My step mom made me a bunch of homemade ornaments that look fabulous on the Victorian tree. They are in the muted reds and greens. I love it.
My family tree was always a mish mash of ornaments we received as gifts and collected over the years. While it will have magic in my eyes because it was my family tree I never liked how it looked. Mulitcolored lights have never been my favorite and ornaments that are just tossed on a tree never kept my attention for long. Let’s just say I’m picky about the tree I have in my home.
