Thursday Question #42: Depression and D/s
Every week there will be a BDSM question posed to readers here at BDSM is Love. Feel free to answer it as candidly as you’d like. If you’d like to participate in the discussion please leave a comment on this post, send me an email or post the response on your own blog!
Have you ever delt with depression in your dynamic either you or your partner? How did you keep the dark void from separating you and bringing you down?

My husband suffers from depression and anger issues and I have bipolar disorder. We often are not matched up in moods. And he is not comfortable with taking me in the often artificial “turned on” state of a manic phase. He says it is like taking a girl who is drunk. We sometimes have to be really patient with each other to find the right emotional times.
I lucked out. No bipolar for me, just major depressive disorder. My Dom is a little ADD at times, but not badly. We balance nicely most of the time, but when I really hit a major depressive phase I have to be careful with our scenes, and sometimes stop scening altogether because sometime (oh so occasionally) I’m not in a space where I trust myself to use our safeword.

I was very down last night and it absolutely demolished my sex drive. Master was keen on a little play but I just couldn’t bring myself to do anything. Fortunately, he was very understanding and just held me for a half-hour (he only stopped because I needed to get to sleep).
I am so lucky to have such a wonderful Master!
I think we all get depressed in life in general and that washes over into other parts of our lives so yea I think we all have been depressed at sometime or another.

I am bipolar with panic attacks & Mistress is going through menopause. There are times that I give her space. If one of us isnt in the right frame of mind-we wont do any scenes. Mistress is very understanding & patient when I am moody or manic. I am very patient when she’s having hotflashes & mood swings. As a surprise I bought a snowcone making machine & small fans for her side of the bed. They both help tremendously with hotflashes & I was rewarded for being so thoughtful
i have clinical depression and ADHD. When my down mood hits, it normally is pretty hard and does interact with our playtime. Master is really tolerable and supportive of my moods.
